OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR A.A YARI

Zamfara Students’ Future Set to Collapse:

AN OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR A.A YARI

With due respect to you Sir, I write this letter to you, in order to outstretch a momentous message on behalf of my fellow indigenous students of Zamfara State.

1. I will like to start by expressing our profound gratitudes over the special efforts made by your administration towards the rehabilitation, reconstruction and upgrading some of our Primary and Secondary Schools across the Fourteen (14) Local Government Areas of the State. This is indeed a welcome development, these schools have now at an International Standard. Establishment of Military and Airforce Secondary Schools is also a recommendable effort that we must admit.

2. Your Excellency, I will like to address you on the unfortunate situation that the good Students of Zamfara State studying in Sokoto State University and Kebbi State University of Science & Technology Aleiro found themselves, as a result of hike of tuition fees for the Students of these Institutions. Where each Student of Sokoto State University will pay a Tuition Fees of N60,000 and that of Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aleiro will pay the sum of N40,000. All these huge sums of money are to be paid in addition to the normal registration fees.

3. Sir, These two Universities have a great number of Zamfara State Students whose future turned into uncertainty. Most (If not all) of our fellow Students in these Universities are from either Poor or Middle-class family.

4. Your Excellency, it’s a constitutional right to every citizen to have a Free Education right from Primary up to University Level. As in Section 18 (3a, b & C) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which says:

“(3) Government shall strive to eradicate illiteracy; and to this end Government shall as and when practicable provide

(a) free, compulsory and universal primary education;

(b) free secondary education;

(c) free university education;…”

Therefore, tuition fees has no constitutional proof in one way or the other. Rather, it’s an attempt to violate the provisions of the Constitution.

5. Consequently, leaving these Students in this unpleasant situation of academic persecution can cost their future forever. As a result of which they will find themselves in a Psychological coma.

6. It has come to our notice that, your counterpart H.E The Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Atiku Bagudo has already rectified the issues of his Students studying in Sokoto State University since at the initial ord of the palava.

7. Your Excellency, we are hereby, appealing onto you to look into the future of over Two Thousand (2000) innocent indigenous Students of Zamfara State, by paying the Tuition Fees as Scholarship to them or following all necessary ways to remove such huge amount of money from the Students’ invoice for registration.

8. We do hope that, our small demand will be considered instantly.

Thanks !

Yours Faithfully,

Comrade Jibril Almustapha Gusau,

Coordinator,

National Association of Nigerian Comrades,

Zamfara State Axis.
